About MedArc
Founded by two busy full-time physicians, MedArc is a web-based medical record archiving service born out of medical necessity.
"Despite the numerous advances in medical technology, practicing medicine today is often complicated by the problem of the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing"
Physicians are commonly forced to make critical decisions under less than ideal circumstances. Often, medical/surgical decisions are made without knowledge of a patients past medical or surgical history, operative notes, baseline labs/EKG's, prior pathology/radiology reports, or information regarding emergency contacts to aid in the medical/surgical decision making process. These frustrating real-life scenarios are played out many times across the nation in emergency rooms, intensive care units and physician's offices each and every day.
From a physician's perspective, it would be nice to have a concise overview of a patient's past medical and surgical history that can be securely accessed anywhere, anytime via the internet (especially after hours when other offices are closed). Pertinent documents that we feel should be contained within a patients medical record archive are as follows:
- medical diagnosis
- operative notes from previous pertinent surgeries
- pathology reports
- baseline labs and EKG's
- pertinent radiology reports such as plain films, CT scans, MRI scans and ultrasounds
- pertinent hospital reports such as history & physicals, progress notes, consultations and discharge summaries
- pertinent notes from physician offices or clinics such as history and physicals, progress notes and consultations.
- emergency contact information
- overview of physicians that have cared for a patient and their respective specialties
- lists of medications
- medication allergies
- other miscellaneous information such as Jehovah's witness (no blood or blood products) or family history of malignant hyperthermia
As you can see, it is a rather daunting task for a patient to collect only the pertinent medical records themselves. That is why MedArc's services allow a patient to "partner" with an archiving phyisian to assist them in collecting their medical records.
